"Say 'Fashionista!'"

Hannah picked out her clothes yesterday.
Me: That doesn't exactly match. Are you sure that is what you want to wear to school?
Han: Yep!
Me: OK. You make sure to tell people you picked out your own clothes.
Han: Of course, Mommy.

Mailing the Letter to the Big Guy

Hannah wrote her own letter to Santa Claus. Remember that she's in Kindergarten where kids are encouraged to write what they hear as they sound out words. Spelling will come later. Also, she insisted on putting a period after each word and we couldn't convince her otherwise. She's so funny!

Hannah-ism

A long time ago, at a garage sale not so far away (my sister's), we picked up three out of four Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Hannah is distressed that we don't have "Mi-Cole-Angelo Inja Turtle" in the set. (We looked up their names on the internet.)

Afternoon update

Hannah said her day was "well, a little fun." She said she didn't cry at all even when she fell on her knees at playtime. Her favorite part was she got to play on the playground 3 whole times! We went for ice cream to celebrate. I asked her if she missed me and she said "this much!" with arms wide and a little hop at the end for emphasis.

Hannah is down the rabbit hole. I don't know when she'll be back.

Hannah has been watching Disney's Alice in Wonderland (1951) and walking around saying "Why is a raven like a writing desk?" and "THE MUSHROOM, OF COURSE!" We now have to sing "Twinkle Twinkle" with a bat instead of a star, and we're painting the roses red everywhere we go.

Look who can write her name without help!! (She gets carried away on the N, but still, it's not bad!)

Hannah-ism

In case you don't follow me on Twitter, which is fine if you don't, but just in case you missed this, I thought I'd share:

"Why do the friends call the cat Pete?"
"What friends?"
"Pete's friends."
"Who?"
"The one named Pete."
"I'm not sure where we go from here."

Monday

I worked today. Hannah went with her grandparents to Costco and Wal-Mart. She told Momo and Papa, very excitedly, that "they have Samples here!" when they got to Costco. She napped for them then played with Nathan for a bit before I took her home. We came home and had a little snack and a movie then went to swim lessons. It was just Hannah and one other boy so they got a lot of teaching and learning time in. Hannah did really well kicking and doing Big Arms.

Regarding the trout

I know we don't usually do weekend posts, but Hannah was funny today.

Brad caught a fish this morning. He showed it to us when he got home and offered to let Hannah touch it and feel the slimy scales. She said, "I love him! What are we gonna name him?" Brad answered, "Dinner." We had to talk about how this fish was a food and not a pet.

Later when Brad was preparing the fish for the grill and Hannah was orbiting with questions, I overheard her ask if she was going to get to share the head and eyeballs. Luckily, Brad had already disposed of those when he cleaned the fish earlier. Hannah was a little disappointed.

She did end up taking a bite or two of the trout at dinner but wasn't crazy about it.

Hannah-isms

Hannah: (After nap) Mawme-ee! You need to come here!
Me: What's up? What's the matter?
Hannah: You need to wake me up.

Hannah playing with toy dishes: Are these my cookers?
Me: Yes, they're called utensils. Can you say utensil?
Hannah: Utensil. Are these my cookers?

[Sounds of something crashing from another room where Hannah was playing]
Brad, calling down the hallway: Hannah, are you OK?
Hannah, sounding quite fine: No-oh!
Brad: You sound OK. If you're OK, you need to say 'Yes', OK?
Hannah: No-oh!
Me: Try asking a different question, honey.
Brad: Are you hurt?
Hannah: No-oh!

Hannah: Where's my eye-box?
Me: What? I don't know what that is?
Hannah: My eye-box to put animals in.
Me: What color is it?
Hannah: It has green houses on it.
Me: Come look with me.
Hannah: There it is!
Me: The Lincoln Logs? Those are Lincoln Logs.
Hannah: That's what I said, my eye-box.

Hannah: My breath hurts!
Me: Do you want to brush your teeth?
Hannah: No, thanks.

Hannah wanted to play with a "tenckle" and we couldn't figure it out. Brad asked her to show him one and she rolled a piece of paper into a telescope. Tenckle = Telescope.

Hannah-isms

I've been posting some of these as tweets on Twitter so some of you may have seen them already.

"Will you take his nose off? Mermaids don't like noses." (talking about her potato head, of course.)

My husband was sleeping in bed because he didn't feel well. I found Hannah sneaking into our bedroom on tip-toes to give him a teddy bear.

"Mommy, do you got burgers?"
"No, are you hungry? How about something else?"
"No! We don't eat burgers, Mommy! Burgers is in your nose!"

Brad plays the Ghostbusters Theme for Hannah on his iPod. Hannah runs around singing "Who you gonna cawl? Gossusters!"

Hannah, looking confusedly at her new book: "I think I boke it."
Me: "Oh, sweetie! Turn it over. Good. Now, turn it around. There you go!"

"Where is Prince, mommy?"
"Who? Daddy? He's at work."
"No. Puh-rinsss is at work, mommy."

Brad showed her a picture on the computer of some Muppets dressed in Star Wars garb. Hannah said "There's Miss Piggy with Princess Leia ears!" and "There's yours frog Mommy!"

Hannah: Here hold these.
Me: Why am I holding your dolls?
Hannah: 'Cuz they nice to you.

Hannah: Knock, knock
Brad: (To me) Honey, she know's knock-knock jokes! (to Hannah) Who's there?
Hannah: It's me, Steve!
Brad: ??!
Me (laughing): From Blues Clues.

Hannah-isms

Hannah may be a surgeon when she grows up. She successfully pulled raisins out of her raisin toast without disturbing the bread. Then, she decided to eat the bread, but only the buttery parts. She also has this trick of spooning the milk out of her cereal and then eating the cereal. Silly Boo.

She looked up at me after breakfast with huge blue eyes and said "It's not nap time?"

She's currently yelling at the TV for Mickey Mouse to use "That one!" "Right there!" I know the Clubhouse is set up that way, but it's still funny to hear the enthusiasm in her voice.

I came home from a manicure and pedicure last week and Hannah was thrilled with my nails so we had to paint hers. I had a shimmery, semi-transparent blue that I put on her teeny toes and fingernails and she was so happy with that. I've since removed my (flaking, peeling) pink and replaced with clear, but she saw the shine last night and said, "I love yours nails, mommy." How cute is that? I swear I've never been all that girly, but man, she is one girly-girl.

Hannah woke up from her nap the other day crying that she wanted her camping and her Becca (my friend who we went camping with for the 4th) and would only hear, "Yes, sweetie, we'll go camping again soon." She must have been dreaming about our trip.

Hannah wants to go to Disneyland because Daddy has told her about the castle at the beginning of Disney films and how much fun that place is. Our answer has been "When you learn how to listen we can go." She says, "I'm listening right now, put shoes on, go to Disneyland!" My answer has changed to "When you're four."

Hannah-isms -- Posted by Amy
  • "dat my monkey!" when looking at flash cards
  • "aw, Petey! dat my silly Petey."
  • seeing some oranges on TV, "dose o-anges at Jamie's house? my Jamie's o-anges."
  • it took me 5 minutes of Boo repeating herself to figure out that gort is yogurt.
  • Boo's first fib: "I not poop-ee! I not."
  • "silly Hannah toes!" that kept wiggling too much to get her shoes on.
