What we did today, Friday, October 24, 2008

• After being up worrying until after midnight, then waking with Hannah’s fever spiking again at 4:30 AM, we slept in until 10 AM.
• Brad called, he’s feeling ill and on his way home.
• Breakfast was scrambled eggs by request. So, after she watched me cook the eggs and some cinnamon toast and I had the food in front of her on the table, she refused to eat. I told her she could sit there until I was finished eating then. Then I laid down a mother-hood guilt-quilt like none that I knew existed inside me. I put food on her fork and told her that I went to a lot of trouble to make her breakfast (scrambled eggs aren’t really a lot of trouble, but hey . . .) and a breakfast that she had asked for, to boot. Yes, to boot. Here’s some ketchup on these eggs and you are going to eat them, so help me, or you can sit in this chair all day. After four bites of egg, she ended up helping herself to the cinnamon toast. Somewhere, 40 years ago, my memon and grandma are smiling to themselves that the old ways are the good ways.
• Brad came home around 10:45 AM. I set up a pallet on the floor for the two sickies to cuddle on while I tried to get the house in better order.
• Becca stopped by to say hi. That was sweet of her. I let her borrow Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. I think it was an interesting travel memoir.
• At noon, Hannah was 102.6 in the ear, gave Motrin. Called doctor, seeing her at 2 PM.
• The doctor couldn’t find anything to treat. We’ll keep her cool and hydrated during the weekend. If she’s not better by Monday, we’ll do lab work.
• Hannah and I stopped at Sinbad’s Hotdogs and picked up an early dinner for us.
• After dinner, Hannah and Brad went for a nap, while I went to pick up medicine from my doctor downtown and then went grocery shopping. They were still asleep when I got back after 6 PM.
