What we did today, Monday, November 3, 2008

~ Today, I’m trying something new with the potty training. I found my old reminder bracelets from when Hannah was a nursing newborn. It has little buttons that you can move into time slots to remember what time you last nursed. I’m going to use it to remind me when she last went potty, so I can keep an eye on my watch to see when she should go next. I’m going to also use it on my right arm when she was dry, and move it to the left when she was wet, so I can spot patterns. Potty training has as much to do with training me to be a trainer as it does with teaching her to go.
• Whoops! Slept in until 9AM. I blame the darkness of the day. It still felt like nighttime with the curtains closed.
• Breakfast was toasty sticks and milk. She kind of nibbled through her cartoons.
• Showered. Ah, clean me. You will thank me later.
• Child clean, brushed, dressed.
• We went outside and played with sidewalk chalk and a toy broom and dustpan while we waited for Brad to come home for lunch. Hannah had fun trying to sweep up leaves that were blowing away. I had fun watching her. I tried to soak up the little bit of sunshine that snuck through the clouds.
• Hannah had fruit snack and one piece of candy for snack with milk while Brad had lunch. Since we slept in, she wasn’t ready for lunch and nap yet.
• We played with alphabet flash cards for a little while. Hannah can recognize the letters A, B, and H. She’s almost got C and S. We worked on making the right sounds with the right letters. V is a toughy.
• Then we pulled out the blocks and made a dollhouse. It takes the shape blocks as well as the alphabet blocks to do this and it was cool. We had fun until I went to make lunch (for real lunch) and stopped playing with the blocks and dolls. She refused to play by herself and went into a major meltdown that lasted over 5 minutes and included a time out.
• Lunch was leftover steak, cheesy toast, and macaroni and cheese from last night. We also had diced peaches on the side with water to drink. Hannah barely ate and wanted to go right to bed. I had her eat the macaroni and cheese and peaches then sent her on to lie down until I was done eating.
• Nap: Hannah went to bed at 2 PM. She fell asleep at 2:30 PM. I emptied the dishwasher, reloaded it, and washed up the rest. I started watching the latest episode of CSI. She slept until 4:30 PM.
• Snack was raisins and Gatorade.
~ As of 4 PM, she’d been dry all day. This may help us get to a point where we can try out all of the new underpants we bought at Mervyn’s.
• Brad came home at 4:45 PM.
