We went to the park today. A good time was not had by all.
I called first to make sure that the YMCA was not going to be there to run us over. When we got there, there was another little family with three kids. One little girl showed an interest in Hannah so Hannah made them fast friends. I think the other child was closer to 2 1/2 or 3 years old so there was a little bit of a "language" barrier between the two, but that didn't stop Hannah.
At one point the other girl's grandmother(?)/older guardian called her away from Hannah to play ball and didn't invite Hannah to play along. I'm not sure why and I didn't ask. Maybe it was the color of Hannah's hair, or the clothes I had on, but the elder woman didn't seem to like us.
Hannah sulked and started to bury herself in playground bark. Of course she got something uncomfortable in her eye and I asked her not to play in the bark anymore.
When the little girl and her grandmother were done playing ball, Hannah was able to play with the little girl again if for no other reason than the guardians of the other children weren't paying attention. The girls found some large strips of bark that the Y kids had ripped off the trees last week when we were there and thought it would be fun to climb up the curly slide while holding the jagged hunks of wood inches from their eyeballs to then throw the bark off the top of the slide and then slide back down and start over. I asked Hannah not to do that since it didn't look safe. I had to ask her three times because the other little girl kept telling her it was OK. Not OK. We had a little talk about listening to Mommy and not other children.
The next game was to play in the bark. Again, I asked Hannah not to because she would rub her eyes and we'd have the same problem we had earlier. Again, the other child kept telling her to play in the bark. Again, Hannah would not listen to me. We left. Hannah threw a tantrum all the way to the car.
